WorkGroup and IOP have entered into a community engagement partnership via a joint
programme that targets high school learners from grade 9 through to grade 11. The
programme aims to provide learners with an overview of IOP’s chemical manufacturing
processes, thereby creating or enhancing their interest in science and mathematics
and motivating them to excel in these subjects.
Groups of between 20 and 30 learners from each of the 3 local High Schools from the
fenceline community of Wentworth, will visit IOP’s site in Jacobs over the course
of each school year and have the opportunity to see science and mathematics applied
in creating the starting blocks for raw materials that find their way into a broad
range of products for the mining, paper, paint and rubber industries and every-day
products to name but a few.
IOP’s interest in education has always been a key pillar in its community and people
development engagements. IOP and its sister companies in the AECI Group have offered
learnerships, apprenticeships and bursaries for many years. The partnership with
WorkGroup is aligned with this approach in that it provides young people with insight
into our industry and the potential career paths available to them.
